As many of you may already know, I completed two online college courses while in Iraq. As I began to enroll in my third class once I returned home, I was informed my enrollment was on hold, pending credit review. As it turns out, after completing two courses with my “home college”, I am considered an academic resident, and they will then perform an official credit evaluation and transfer. I’ve never been to college before, but I knew I’d get at least a credit or two in Physical Education just for being a soldier.
As it turns out, I received eighteen credits just for being a soldier. I have been credited in such areas as physical conditioning, first aid, military science, parachuting, ethics, and marksmanship.
Sweet.
Combined with the two actual courses I completed, that puts my grand total at 25 official college credits. 39 more and I earn the coveted (and required by the military education system before continuing to a bachelor’s) Associate of General Studies. From there … well, from there, my friend, the road is wide open. I’m still thinking anthropology, but who knows how I’ll feel in another year or so.

Sweet.
I remember when I first got back to CCCC, they told me that the Air Force got more credits due to physical *education* not just *doing* the physical stuff. I also remember it only being 16 credits. I wonder if they changed it, or if you got more since you’ve been in longer… or maybe it’s a combat zone thing. Hmmmm.
