bigR has had a cough here and there for the last few weeks. Last night it started to get pretty bad again, so I laid down with him in his bed to keep him nice and comfy. During the night, he developed a fever, peaking at 102 before I fumbled around in the dark for some Tylenol.
The little dude rested through the remainder of the night, and upon waking this morning, I found he had mysteriously transferred his germs into my body. Inexplicably, coughing into my face all night was a bit more work than my immune system was willing to deal with.
So here I sit, eight hours into a 24-hour duty shift, sore throat and aching head.
Ah, the sacrifices we make for our childrens.
I realized this morning that I went all day yesterday without checking my email. This is neither a good nor bad thing, but it caused me to realize that for the first time since I can remember, I spent the entire day engaged in *something* other than the computer.
The day started with some yard work, mowing the lawn with a really crappy push-mower, disassembling the play gym for cleaning (billions of carpenter ants, hundreds of water bugs, six dozen snails, 58 geckos, and one centipede spotted in the process), and hitting up Subway for lunch with Bryan and bigR. I spent most of the afternoon completing the work on the Volvo I started several months ago. $119 in parts and many hours later, everything was replaced and the car was reassembled. The moment of truth was bitter-sweet. The car does indeed crank now, and cranks strong. Unfortunately, it won’t spark. I’m fairly certain I screwed up the timing when putting everything back together, but I’m not certain that would cause the car to not start.
I am at the end of my patience with that car, and really want it running for one reason: to sell it.
At any rate, it was nice being close to the wife and kids all day, even if I did still lose my temper a handful of times. I think I’m getting better … maybe.
@wilw: Ladies and gentlemen, the moment you’ve all been waiting for. The man of the hour, Wiliam Oglethorpe Wheaton! Huzzah, huzzah, huzzah!
@boisvertfj: s/Wa/Wo/g - of course Charlie *is* a bit of a wanka. So that stands. And twat! Hah!
After copious procrastination the Volvo is fixed and put together. Except still not starting. Cranking, improvement, but still not starting.
To hell with the non-powered push mower. It’s not that it was too much work, it’s that it DID NOT CUT THE GRASS. Srsly just knocked it over.
@dianarchy: Who says you can’t get into Mensa? Have you taken the test?
Man, I follow far too many people to not be totally missing being at PAX right now.

I just licked Tracy’s eye, and she paid me back with a sucker punch to the jaw. We’re so close to being back
